WHEN WILL WE BE SAFE???

25-yr-old held for harassing woman driver

Making a pass and verbally abusing a young woman driver while chasing her on his Pulsar motorcycle landed a 25-year-old man in trouble. The incident took place on the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) corridor in south Delhi.
The youth, identified as Mohammad Iqbal, was caught by PCR personnel who chased him after the woman complained to them. Iqbal was later handed over to the Lodhi Colony police and a case has been registered against him.

According to a police officer, the girl is a resident of Sidharth Enclave in south Delhi, and was going home when she saw Iqbal chasing her on his motorcycle. “Initially, she did not understand his intentions. She sped away when she realised that the biker was chasing her. Iqbal kept following her and started making rude gestures” said the officer.
On her way, she spotted a PCR van stationed and approached the police personnel for help. The PCR personnel responded quickly and chased Iqbal and caught him. Iqbal is a resident of Dakshinpuri area and works with a private cable company.

Noida women live in constant fear of being stalked, molested..

Despite police’s tall claims, Noida continues to remain unsafe for women.   What is disturbing is that most cases of stalking and molestation have been reported from busy markets and residential areas. The situation has deteriorated to the extent that recently a Delhi Police constable was molested at a club in Sector 18.
People haven’t forgotten the gangrape of an MBA student in 2009. The woman was raped when she was returning from Great India Place, a mall located at a busy crossing in the city.
“I have stopped going out at night. We underwent a terrible ordeal once. We were returning from a late night movie and stopped to grab some street food. Five drunken men got down from their car and started abusing everyone. We tried to leave but they chased us. Finally, we had to make a PCR call,” said Arushi Chaturvedi, a resident of Sector 25.
Police say stalkers target women near busy market places or colonies as they can easily escape. Such is the situation that women don’t feel safe even during the day. "Though my house is near the Metro station, I prefer taking a rickshaw over walking those few metres. The area is really unsafe,” said Sampada Singh, a resident of Sector 19.
Noida’s women residents also pointed out the key areas where they felt vulnerable. These areas include Ganga Market in Sector 29, Sector 18 market, Rajnigandha Chowk and Indira Market in Sector 27, among others. Even residential sectors such as 12, 22, 19, 28, 27, 36, 32, 34, 37, 50 and 71 are vulnerable.
Sonali Lokhatia, a resident of Sector 31 said, “People park their cars near Brahmaputra market. They often put their hands out of the car, knowing we will pass by them and that they’ll be able to touch us. Even the nearby police post is of no use.”
Mili Sodhi, a resident of Sector 50, added, “Even in daytime, you can see bikers trying to misbehave with girls. Such incidents often happen outside schools.” Noida police are now trying to deploy more women cops on the street. “ We have increased the number of women cops and are trying to deploy them at prominent places like malls, markets and Metro stations.
A dedicated women police station has been formed. There are standing orders to register all cases from any woman and take immediate action,” said Jyoti Narayan, deputy inspector general (DIG) of police.

Two get death for BPO girl rape and murder in Pune..

In a case that exposed the vulnerability of female employees of call centre,a Pune court on Tuesday awarded death sentence to two people — a cab driver and his friend — who raped 22-year-old Jyotikumari Choudhari in cold blood when they were supposed to drive her to office.
Terming the gangrape and murderrarest of the rare case, principal district and sessions judge Anant Badar awarded death punishment to cab driver Purushottam Dasharath Borate (30) and his painter friend Pradeep Yashwant Kokade (26).
Judge Badar said both Borate and Kokade are a menace to the society and they could not be rehabilitated.
“Both the convicts committed the crime in a pre-planned and brutal manner. The cab driver knew that November 1, 2007 was Jyotikumari’s last day at Wipro BPO and she was serving her notice period for the last one month,” the judge observed.
“The convicts do not deserve lesser punishment otherwise the potential criminals in the society would think of committing such crimes and getting away with lesser punishment,” he said
“While getting into the company cab, young Jyotikumari had complete faith in driver Borate as he was picking and dropping her for two days prior to the incidence but the accused took advantage of this,” the judge said.
“Both the accused committed the crime in a pre-planned and brutal manner and even after that they were cool about the crime,” judge Badar observed.
Jyotikumari Ramanand Choudhari, a Wipro BPO staffer living at Pashan, was abducted, gang raped and murdered by Borate and Kokade on November 1, 2007.
The duo whisked her away to Gahunje village near Mumbai-Pune Expressway where she was gang-raped. They then strangulated her with a scarf.
A native of Gorakhpur, Jyotikumari has done BSc before joining Wipro BPO. She was living in Pashan with her sister and brother-in-law since 2001.
It was the first case of rape and murder of a BPO employee in the state and second in the country. Jyotikumari was killed within months after Pratibha Shrikant Murty, a BPO employee from Bangalore, was raped and murdered by a cab driver.
When the district court announces a death sentence to a convict the case will be referred to the high court for confirmation notwithstanding any appeal. The death sentence can be executed only after HC’s confirmation.

Banned in Gurgaon pubs: Bouncers, escorts, stag entry

Pubs and discotheques in Gurgaon cannot employ bouncers anymore and have been instructed to keep out escorts who help male guests gain entry.

The Gurgaon Police issued the ban on Tuesday following the March 12 abduction of a pub worker from outside Sahara Mall and her gang rape. The pubs have also been told to allow entry by couples only.http://www.hindustantimes.com/Images/Popup/2012/3/21_03_12-pg1b.jpg

The police feel bouncers hired by bars and discotheques are often ill-trained to control troublemakers or create ruckus themselves.
“Most of the brawls have been happening because of stag entries and women helping individuals gain entry into the pubs,” said Maheshwar Dayal, DCP (crime).
“From now on, only private security agencies, which have a licence or have applied for one, can provide guards,” the officer said, adding that escorts would not be allowed even outside malls housing pubs.
“Most bouncers are not trained. After drinking, the guests go out of their control or they themselves get involved in brawls. We want Gurgaon to be a safer place for all, especially women,” Dayal said.
The police raided malls on MG Road on Sunday and Monday night an arrested over two dozen people for creating nuisance and drinkin public.
.Many bars and discotheques flouting the midnight deadline faced a crackdown
