Woman gangraped, killed; body hung from tree in Bihar
Bhagalpur, January 14, 2013
In a shocking incident, a woman who got down from a Delhi-bound train in Bhagalpur district, was gangraped, killed and her semi-naked body hung from a tree in a mango orchard in Kahalgaon.
The woman, along with her 10-year-old son and two relatives, was on way to Delhi from Alipurdwar to join her husband who works as a labourer in Delhi. They were travelling by the Brahmaputra Mail.
Police said the 32-year-old victim was dragged to the mango orchard and gangraped by unidentified persons after she alighted from the train between Vikramshila and Kahalgaon stations.

She was strangled to death and her body hung from a tree late Saturday night. Police recovered the body on Sunday and sent it to the Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College and Hospital in Bhagalpur for postmortem.
According to sources, the woman hailed from New Jalpaiguri district in West Bengal. The Kahalgaon GRP was informed of the incident by the woman’s cousin and her husband, who were also travelling with the victim in the train. They told the police that the victim had started feeling restless in the crowded compartment of the train after the train left Sahebganj. She wanted to get down from the compartment, but was somehow persuaded not to do so by them as well as co-passengers, they added.

“However, as the train slowed down near Kajipur, located between Kahalgaon and Vikramshila stations, she jumped out of the compartment,” the relatives informed the police, adding before they could do something, the train had gained speed.

ASP, Bhagalpur, Meenu Kumari said the woman was feeling restless. “As she went towards the toilet, her cousin followed her. When she jumped out of the train all on a sudden, the cousin tried to stop her, but couldn’t. It is not clear why she took this step.”

A group of inebriated people then dragged her to a nearby mango orchard and sexually assaulted her.

“Liquor bottles were found at the spot,” said the ASP. A railway ticket and cellphone number of her village pradhan written on a piece of paper was recovered from the victim’s possession.

At present, the woman’s son and relatives are at Kahalgaon police station.

Bhagalpur SSP K S Anupam confirmed recovery of the body, but said prima facie it did not appear to be a case of rape. However, she added that it would be clear only after the postmortem if the woman had been was raped or not.

The SSP further said the inquiry into the circumstances, which caused the woman to jump out of the compartment — as claimed by her relatives — was in preliminary stages.

She said the orchard where the body was found hanging from a tree is located at a distance of nearly 10 km from the place where the woman was said to have got down from the train. According to local sources, the victim’s clothes were found strewn nearly 50 metres away from the tree.
The latest incident comes close on heels of the December 16 gangrape of a 23-year-old paramedical student by six persons in a moving bus in south Delhi. She was brutally assaulted and thrown on the road without clothes. The victim died in a Singapore hospital on December 29.

In the 2002 case, Salve was convicted and given a 10-year jail term. He was released from the Nashik central jail in May 2012. Salve also faces two other charges of kidnapping minors.

NCM opposes death penalty to rapists

New Delhi, January 13, 2013

Opposing death penalty for rape convicts, the National Commission for Minorities has said such a "blanket provision" would prompt offenders to kill their victims while cautioning the government of "knee-jerk reactions". NCM chairperson Wajahat Habibullah, in recommendations to Justice

Verma Committee, has also cautioned it against "knee-jerk" reactions in the wake of the Delhi gang-rape incident which has led to people demanding castration and public hanging of rapists.
"The laws concerning rape provisions should be made for enhancement of punishment with imprisonment of life and also liability to fine. A blanket provision for death would prompt offenders to kill their victims," the NCM in its recommendations said.

Chhatisgarh: 11 tribals raped, cover-up raises stink

Raipur, January 07, 2013

At least 11 minor tribal girls in a Chhattisgarh government ashram (residential school) were allegedly raped by a teacher and a watchman for months last year, but an official cover-up masked their crimes till a chance detection.

The sexual exploitation of the girls aged between 8 and 13 at the school in Kanker district, about 170 km south of Raipur, came to light on Sunday when the victims confided in a government official on an inspection.

The police have arrested the accused, teacher Mannuram Goti and watchman Deenanath Nagesh. They were produced in court on Monday and remanded in judicial custody.

“The girls first complained in August 2012 and the matter came up in the local village panchayat, but was hushed up because the watchman’s wife was a panch,” a police official privy to the investigation said.

“The sarpanch, however, informed the block education officer about the allegations three months later after developing cold feet.”

What’s more, the victims had complained to their hostel superintendent, Babita Markam, who allegedly remained silent.

State tribal welfare department commissioner MS Paraste said, “It is shocking these officials remained mum.”

Earlier in the day, district collector Alarmelmangai D sacked Goti and Markam. The block education officer, SS Navargi, was suspended.

A woman IPS officer, Nitu Kamal, from the state police headquarters has started investigations in the case and is likely to submit her report this week.

India 'gang-rape': Student, friend attacked on Delhi bus

17 December 2012

A protest in Delhi on 29 November 2010 against the gang rape Delhi has one of the highest rates of crime against women in India
A 23-year-old Indian student has been allegedly gang-raped inside a private bus in the capital, Delhi, police say.

The woman was travelling with a male friend on Sunday night when they were attacked. They were brutally beaten, stripped and thrown out of the vehicle.

Both have been admitted to hospital. The condition of the woman is reported to be "critical".
Delhi is often called the "rape capital of India" - police recorded more than 550 cases in the city last year.
Correspondents say Delhi can be a very difficult city for women, with sexual harassment commonplace and rapes and abduction all too frequent. The capital's rape figures are higher than for other Indian cities of comparable size, they say.
Police have registered a case and Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit has promised "strict action" against those responsible.
The woman and her friend had boarded the bus from Munirka area and were on their way to Dwarka in south-west Delhi.
They were returning after watching a film in a mall in south Delhi, police said.
The couple were attacked by "at least four men", police said. Some reports said the attackers included the bus staff.
On Monday, senior police officer Chhaya Sharma appealed to the public to help identify the owner of the bus.
At a press conference, police showed the camera recordings of a white luxury bus which they said could have been the one used in the crime. The incident has led to outrage in the city.
"This is a shocking incident. I hope that the guilty are punished for the heinous crime," Delhi's Women and Child Development Minister Kiran Walia said.
The chairperson of the National Commission for Women, Mamata Sharma: "Such incidents are increasing in Delhi. Police and government should be really alert.
"We will get an inquiry done and will also inquire with the police as to what action has been taken so far."

Trio molests teen on busy Dombivli road

Dec 13, 2012, 04.47 AM

KALYAN: Days after a 19-year-old boy was killed for protesting against eve-teasing in Dombivli, a 22-year-old dance teacher and two of his associates were arrested after they allegedly molested a teenager in full public view and assaulted her boyfriend when he protested.

The incident occurred near an ice-cream parlour on Char Rasta Road in Dombivli (E) on Tuesday evening. Sources said there were quite a few onlookers, but none of them came forward to help the girl and her friend. The three accused —dance teacher Dipesh Solanki, Rajesh Solanki (18) and Sandeep Ahire (21)—were arrested early on Wednesday.

Sources said the victim was a student at Dipesh's dance school and the duo reportedly had an affair for about a year before breaking up recently. "When Dipesh learned about the girl's new boyfriend, he got angry and committed the crime," said Vilas Jadhav, senior inspector, Ramnagar police.

Around 9pm on Tuesday, the girl and her boyfriend were having falooda at the ice-cream parlour when the three accused showed up. They had an argument with the girl before manhandling and molesting her. When the boyfriend intervened, he was allegedly assaulted and warned not to meet her again. A crowd gathered at the spot but nobody tried to save the duo. The boy sustained minor injuries in the incident.

While leaving the spot, the trio hurled stones at the girl and her boyfriend; neither of them was hit. The girl then lodged a complaint with the Ramnagar police, who arrested the trio in the wee hours of Wednesday.

On December 3, four youngsters stabbed Santosh Vichivara (19), to death at the gate of his housing complex in Dombivli for protesting against the lewd comments passed at a girl. In that case, too, there were 30-35 people present in the area, but nobody went to his aid.

A week later, a 25-year-old MBA was arrested for passing lewd comments at a teenager, while an autorickshaw driver was picked up for allegedly raping a four-year-old girl.

13-year-old allegedly raped by father, brother, uncle in Kerala

13-year-old allegedly raped by father, brother, uncle in Kerala

Thalassery: When a 13-year-old class 8 student in Kerala's Kannur refused to go home after school and would incessantly cry, her teachers discovered a shocking tale of abuse. The child was allegedly raped over the last two years by her father, her 15-year-old brother and her uncle.

The teachers called the police and the two men have been arrested and a case of rape has been registered against them; the boy has been sent to a juvenile home. The girl is now housed at a home run by the Child Welfare committee where she will be counseled.

But tales of horror continue to emerge. The police have now found that the victim's older sister died two years ago - she allegedly committed suicide. An investigation has been opened to find out if she too was abused by the men of the house. The child has reportedly told her teachers that the sister killed herself to escape similar abuse.

The family is poor. The girl's mother works as coolie, said KC Rosakutty, who heads the Kerala Women's Commission which is overseeing investigations in the case. The commission has offered to take the girl under its care. Ms Rosakutty also said that it might write to the chief minister for an enquiry into the elder sister's death.

"This is a shocking case of two minor sisters being raped by family members. The police say the elder sister committed suicide. But this needs to be probed as no proper inquiry was done," Ms Rosakutty said.

Harassment leads to mob violence in Ghaziabad
Hindustan Times
Ghaziabad, November 05, 2012

Swift police action prevented a potential communal tension from spreading on Sunday night in Ghaziabad, where three young men on a bike harassed two girls at Sakko Wali Gali area. A heavy contingent of police force was rushed to the spot and normalcy was restored  but not before a person was beaten up and the bike of the accused was set on fire by an irate mob.The incident occurred when two girls — one of them belonging to the family of an influential resident — were returning home in a cycle-rickshaw.Three teenagers on a bike allegedly resorted to eve-teasing with the girls, who later raised their voice against the act.“Hearing the shouts, two of the pillion riders fled the spot, leaving the rider behind. HC seeks report on withdrawn cops' 'harassment'

Chandigarh, November 02, 2012

Taking a serious note of averments alleging ill-treatment meted out to police personnel even after being withdrawn from SK Asthana, suspended inspector general (IG) of police, Punjab vigilance bureau, the Punjab and Haryana high court has directed the Punjab chief secretary to look into the matter and submit a report.
The division bench comprising chief justice Arjan Kumar Sikri and justice Rakesh Kumar Jain said, "The court would be compelled to treat the case as a contempt of court if the cops who had approached the court against misuse of powers by Asthana are harassed."

The directions came during resumed hearing of a petition filed by Panchkula resident SK Nayyar, alleging that Asthana had retained police personnel more than the authorised number at his residence here as "personal servants" since the time he was posted as senior superintendent of police at Kapurthala, Jalandhar, Barnala and Patiala, and also deputy inspector general (DIG), Patiala range.

Appearing for the petitioner, advocate AK Walia contended that though the cops withdrawn from Asthana had been sent back to the police lines, they were not given posting orders. He also submitted that head constable Avtar Singh's service revolver was still with Asthana. Walia added that a departmental inquiry was initiated against head constable Kuldeep Singh on Asthana's directions, allegedly on the charges of insubordination for not escorting his (Asthana's) friend, a jeweller, to New Delhi. But the inquiry is still going on, he said.

Representing the state government, additional advocate general Atul Lakhanpal told the court that Asthana had been placed under suspension on October 19 and the extra police personnel attached with him were sent back to their parent units.

MS Chinna, assistant inspector general of police (welfare and litigation), Punjab, informed the court through his reply that an officer of the rank of IG was authorised for a total number of 11 police personnel   six personal security officers and five guards. He added that an additional director general of police had been deputed to review the security of all senior officers in the state so that the officers had security as per specified norms.
The case would now come up for hearing on December 6.

Tycoon's 'suicide message' hints at harassment

A day after the news of Akanksha Rathi's death became public, her family members claimed they had found a draft message in her mobile in which she allegedly wrote the reason behind her extreme step. "'Maa (mother) I am killing myself because these people don't keep me properly…', these related stories

Industrialist found dead in Delhi home were the words which I found in the draft message of my daughter's mobile phone. Since the message was saved with my name in the sender's column, we assume that she wanted to send that message to me, but it was never delivered," Akanksha's mother, Anita Singh, told Hindustan Times.
It was, however, not clear from the message who were Akanksha were referring to.

Singh claimed Akanksha had sent a message to her close friend Kanika to inform her that some of their photographs were stolen from their Indore house. According to Singh, they have also found some e-mails that her husband, Aniruddha, had sent to his father before his death, pleading him not to take his business from him.

According to Akanksha's family members, her in-laws did not like her ever since she married Aniruddha Rathi against the wishes of his family members. Sources said that the Rathi family had detached themselves from the couple and had asked them to settle in Indore after setting up a factory there.

Akanksha's in-laws continue to maintain silence on the entire issue. Aniruddha's father has already taken interim bail from a Saket court in connection with the harassment case she had filed in Indore.

When Hindustan Times visited the Rathi bungalow at Sadhna Enclave in south Delhi's Malviya Nagar, the security guard said that none of the family members was present in the house.

Meanwhile, a team from Indore police reached Delhi to conduct investigation into the harassment complaint lodged by Akanksha against her inlaws in Indore.

Haryana khap blames consumption of chowmein for rapes

Haryana khap blames consumption of chowmein for rapesCHANDIGARH: A khap panchayat in Haryana's Jind district has blamed consumption of chowmein behind the growing incidents ofrapes in the state saying it leads to hormonal imbalance.

"To my understanding, consumption of fast food contributes to such incidents. Chowmein leads to hormonal imbalance evoking an urge to indulge in such acts," said Jitender Chhatar, a resident of Jind's Chhatar village and thua khap panchayat leader.

"You also know the impact of chowmein, which is a spicy food, on our body. Hence, our elders also advised to consume light and nutritious food," Chhatar added.

A khap panchayat in Haryana's Jind district has blamed
consumption of chowmein behind the growing incidents
of rapes in the state saying it leads to hormonal imbalance.

Last week, khap panchayats had evoked outrage after Sube Singh, a khap leader, advocated lowering of age of marriage for girls from 18 years to 16 years on the grounds that young girls are vulnerable to rapes and should be married off earlier.

Om Prakash Chautala, leader of Opposition, too backed the khaps' demand while Congress leaders including Haryana congress chief Phool Chand Mullana and education minister Geeta Bhukkal had stated that growing rape cases were a conspiracy against the state government.

Dharamvir Goyat, another Congress leader, had sparked off a controversy by saying that 90% of the rape cases were consensual.

Former minister and Congress MLA Sampat Singh said on Monday that "lack of intellectual growth" was the reason behind rising crime against women.

"People might have prospered but have not become mature enough to understand their responsibilities towards society and in some cases towards their families even. Generally, families hardly monitor the activities of their children, especially the sons, who are later found to be involved in such acts," said Sampat.

Minors rape 14-year-old at Baruipur, set her on fire
HT Correspondent, Hindustan Times
Kolkata, October 18, 2012

Just a day after chief minister Mamata Banerjee accused the media in Bengal of giving undue and extensive coverage of rapes in the state, so polluting tender minds, her police had to register an FIR of gangrape of a minor by three boys, two of them minors, at Baruipur, about 15 km to the south of Kolkata.
What made the crime a very rare one, indeed, is that not only did three minors, aged between 12 and 16, allegedly rape the 14year-old girl, but also set her on fire. The girl, the daughter of a daily-wage labourer, is battling for life at SSKM Hospital in Kolkata.
The victim was raped in her own home on Tuesday afternoon. The three boys - Sottu Naskar, 20, Susanta Sarder, 15, and Bappa Mondal, 12, all locals - entered her room on Tuesday afternoon and raped her. They then poured kerosene on her, set her on fire and fled.
The neighbours noticed the fire and rushed to rescue the girl, who is now in hospital.
"Rape are being highlighted every day as if the entire state has become a land of rapists. They're glorifying rape. Negative journalism only destroys and it's time to champion positive reporting," the chief minister had said on Monday evening at a function to inaugurate the festive issue of the Trinamool Congress party organ, JagoBangla.
The police avoided comment.

17-yr-old alleges sexual harassment at father's hands

Ghaziabad, October 09, 2012

A 17-year-old minor girl, a student of class 11 at a reputed private school in Ghaziabad, has levied allegations of physical, mental and sexual harassment against her father.
Her father works as a radio operator at a Noida police control room. An FIR has been registered in thecase. In her complaint, the girl, a resident of Ghaziabad, has stated that her father had tried to touch her private parts several times in the past five-six years and that for the past few months has been pressuring her to get into a sexual relationship with him.
"I was beaten up several times. He also threatened to stop my studies whenever I objected to his behaviour. He has molested me several times and has been sending me vulgar SMSes. He has also threatened my mother when I revealed the incident to her," the victim wrote in her complaint - which runs into two pages - to the police.
The victim has also stated that more than a month ago, her father had tried to take off her clothes when she came out of the bathroom. "I had kicked him to save myself," said the letter. The girl has also asked senior police officials to give her protection and also agreed to submit the incriminating SMSes.
Ghaziabad Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Prashant Kumar said the allegations are serious in nature. "We are investigating the case and will call the victim for her statement. Our investigations are on," he added.
Kavi Nagar police station officials said that a case under Sections 354 (assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 504 (intentional insult) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of IPC was registered after the complaint was received.

Outrages expose ugly face of rich Haryana

Hisar/Jind/Karnal, October 09, 2012

For a mother, only the harshest punishment is appropriate for her daughter's tormenters. But 16-year-old Sarla (name changed) betrays no such anger, only a quiet hurt. The young Dalit teenager was raped on September 9 by seven youths from the dominating caste in her village, Dabra, in Hisar. Nine days later, her father killed himself after a video clip of the incident surfaced. Her 18-year-old brother, unable to bear the humiliation, is living with his grandmother.
But Sarla does not want to lead a life tethered by compromise. "It was not my fault. I will never forgive, or forget it," she said. She is appearing for her Class 11 semester exams and wants to be educated, become self-reliant.
This teenager personifies the defiance that comes after "one has nothing left to lose", says the 30-year-old Dalit woman who was gang-raped and filmed inside her house on September 21 in Pillukhera village of Jind. The accused held her children at gunpoint, forcing them to watch.
"People stare and say 'that is the woman from the MMS'. I live on for my children." Her husband wants a normal life: "I can't sit and mourn as I have a family to look after."
Haryana's shameThe numbers are staggering: on an average, two rapes are committed per day in Haryana. According to statistics available with the State Crime Records Bureau, till September 29 this year, Haryana had recorded 507 rapes; in the same period in 2011, the number was 567. In 2011, there were 723 cases in total, three less than 2010.
Despite this, attitudes are dismissive. Director general of police RS Dalal had initially sought to play down the incidents, blaming media hype and claiming a decline in rape figures. Facing backlash, he announced a state-wide drive to protect women and keep tabs on 'loafer' youth. Many cases are dismissed for not being "genuine". "Many times, the girl agrees to go with her male friend, but others join in," said another officer, refusing to be named.
Experts say the cases  reflect the deteriorating social set-up in Haryana more than the breakdown of law and order. The state has one of the country's most shockingly skewed sex ratios - 830 women per 1,000 men.
Reicha Talwar, director of the Women's Studies Research Center, Kurukshetra, sees it as a failure of society. "The technology boom has exposed us to information, but education and social systems have failed to develop minds accordingly. The youth gets hooked to the glamourous depiction of crime, drugs and alcohol," she said.
Khap panchayats, however, seem to think that lowering the age limit for marriage will magically solve the problem. "If women have their husbands at the age of 16 to fulfil their sexual desires, how would rapes take place?" says Sube Singh Samain, spokesman of the khap mahapanchayat.
In a deeply patriarchal society, the victim often bears the added burden of 'shame'. The mother of a 15-year-old rape victim from Rohtak said: "They stare at our daughter, even though she was the one who suffered. After all, who will marry a rape victim?"

Murder of innocence as men on prowl target vulnerable children

Indore/Bhopal, October 09, 2012

Driven to desperation by poverty, a six-year-old girl's parents handed her over to an uncle - who took her to Rajiv Awas Vihar in Indore. At her new house, she was sexually abused and tortured almost everyday, and though her cries of pain were heard by neighbours, nobody bothered to intervene or inform the authorities.

The manner of her demise still remains a mystery. While officials say she was beaten to death, a forensic investigator suggested that her uncle may have forced her into oral sex - fatally choking her by causing windpipe blockage.
Or take the case of three-year-old girl, who stepped out of her Bhopal house to watch a marriage procession go by. She was raped and murdered by three people, who then dumped her body in a nullah.
Over the last three years, Madhya Pradesh has had the dubious distinction of reporting the highest number of child rapes in the country. Of the 7,112 cases of child rape in India, Madhya Pradesh reported the highest figure of 1,262 cases (17.74%) - as per the National Crime Records Bureau data for 2011. Uttar Pradesh came a close second with 1,088, followed by Maharashtra's 818.
The picture is equally morbid in the rest of India, with over 19 such cases being reported everyday. As many as 7,112 such cases were lodged in 2011, up from 5,045 in 2007 - a jump of over 40% in five years. In the last five years, the highest number of cases were reported from Madhya Pradesh, followed by Maharashtra , and Uttar Pradesh. Delhi registered 1,649 cases - a worryingly high number for its size and population.
According to Tapan Bhattacharya, a social worker who has worked for children for over two decades, most of the victims were from poor migrant families that are illiterate and generally unaware of child rights. "The first instinct of such parents is to hush up the matter because they don't want trouble," said Bhattacharya.
The abuser, on the other hand, can be "anybody, from someone known to the family or an outsider", said Raghvendra Tomar of the Bachpan Bachao Andolan. Clinical psychologist Dr Swati Prasad said, "These are men who do not have a normal sex life. So they abuse children, who are the most defenceless and vulnerable."
The Madhya Pradesh police, however, view the high numbers as a good thing. "Instead of trying to hush up the matter, we proactively register such cases. Hence, the high figures," said Indore inspector-general of police Anuradha Shankar.

He has been sent to 14-day judicial custody by the court.

The IAS officer was detained after the train reached the Charbhagh railway station and interrogated him for four hours before arrest. The GRP lodged a case of harassment against the officer and will produce him in the court later during the day. The officer said in his defence that he entered into a verbal duel with the woman after she made castist remark on him. The GRP said they had to arrest the officer for further inquiry as charges against him are serious.

According to the GRP, the woman, in her complaint said that the IAS officer misbehaved with her all night on the train. In the morning when she went to toilet, she alleged, the officer tried to molest her daughter. When the daughter informed the woman about the incident, the latter lodged a complaint with the GRP and informed her family members on mobile phone. Realising the consequences, the officer threw himself on the feet of the woman and started apologising.

However, the woman went ahead and lodged a written complaint. Sources said that the GRP and the officer tried to pressurise the woman to compromise and withdraw the complaint. However, the victim remained firm on her stand. As a result, the GRP had to arrest the officer but the latter booked under bailable offence. The officer claimed that the argument started after he accidentally dropped woman's luggage in which she used a casteist slur against him.

The GRP has lodged the case under section 354 of the Indian Penal Code: "Whoever assaults or uses criminal force to any woman, intending to outrage or knowing it to be likely that he will thereby outrage her modesty, shall be punished with impris-onment of either description for a term which may extend to two years, or with fine, or with both."

The GRP inspector who booked IAS officer under bailable offences has been shifted to Gorakhpur. The new inspector after taking charge has also slapped IPC section involving attempt of rape. According to sources, chief minister Akhilesh Yadav was not happy with the way GRP first tried to force the woman not to press charges and later booked the accused under `mild sections' of IPC.

Infant raped on pavement in Kolkata, 3 detained

KOLKATA: The one-and-a-half-year old daughter of a Kolkata Police's home guard was allegedly raped at Park Street in the wee hours of Wednesday.
The home guard, who was earlier a daily wage earner, got the job after he saved several lives during the Stephen Court blaze on March 23, 2010. Sources said he was on duty at the Police Training School on Tuesday night, while his wife was sleeping with her daughter on a Royd Street pavement, their regular dwelling.
According to locals, when the mother woke up at 1.30am, she didn't find her daughter beside her. She raised an alarm and informed other pavement dwellers in front of the 27 Royd Street building. Accordingly, they started searching the toddler along the pavement and adjacent areas. As the mother failed to trace the kid, she lodged a complaint with the Park Street police station at around 2.30am.
After informing police, the mother and other pavement dwellers again started a search for the kid and finally spotted her inside the compound of 29 Royd Street - hardly 25 metres from the place where they were sleeping. After finding blood stains and nail marks all over the body, they took the baby to Chittaranjan National Medical College and Hospital where doctors confirmed sexual torture on her. "There were wound marks on her private parts," said an officer. The condition of the kid started deteriorating and she was shifted to a private hospital in Park Street. Police said that the kid is still in a critical condition.
Police have registered a case under section 376 (2) F (rape of a girl aged under 12). Cops have already started interrogating other pavement dwellers, but are yet to get any clue. Other pavement dwellers confirmed that the mother slept at around 9 on Tuesday night. None could provide any clue for police. The
The police have also detained three pavement dwellers for interrogation.
A few months ago, the same Park Street witnessed a rape in a moving car, which proved how the city roads are turning unsafe at night.
Sanju Mullick, The mother of the victim in his early thirties is wife of Raju Mullick, a home guard of Kolkata Police. Raju who was a daily wage earner was awarded with the home guard job after he saved several lives during Stephen court blaze on March 23, 2010. Forty -three persons were charred to death in that blaze.
The Mullicks used to stay on the pavement - in front of 27 Royed Street - close to Park Street. On Tuesday night, Raju was on night duty at Police Training School. Sanju slept around 9 pm along with her daughter.
Around 1.30 am, when she woke up, found her daughter missing. She raised an alarm and informed other pavement dwellers. Initially they did not suspect anything wrong. They started a search along the pavement and adjacent areas but failed to find the kid. Then they informed Park Street police station around 2.30 am.

STOP STREET HARASSMENT!! STOP CAT CALLS!!

At last, it’s you who has to fight back…

It happens to atleast 90 percent women in their lifetime. It happens everywhere, everyday, anytime.

Yes, I am talking of THE STREET HARASSMENT!!
THE CAT CALLS!!

The actions of one sexist man affect how female bystanders feel and behave towards men in general.  Now one of the shittiest thing that we girls listen every now and then, when somebody misbehaves with us. Ahhh, You must
have given him a sign…What clothes were you wearing?

Damn! HOW DOES IT MATTER WHAT WAS ONE WEARING???  Even if we roam without clothes on the

OOOOOOOOOOOOOOO . . .

Remember, a girl is never responsible for the harassment, no matter at what time is she travelling, no matter what she is wearing, It doesn’t make a difference…. If she is responsible, that is not harassment!!

May be clothes cause sexual harassment, or may be you are just a pervert.

The cat call, The “hey baby,” the car honk, the low whistle, the kissy noise. They aren’t compliments. Women take them disgustingly. No Women would like to hear comments on her body, No Women likes being called baby
by any pervert, No Women likes to be whistled at on streets, She is not a dog… NO Women, believe me…No Women..!!

But all these are an inevitable part of urban living for women, and are responsible for blowing away the confidence that women carry with themselves, while leaving from home.

Not that women are the weaker sex, no they are not. But there are people (including women themself) who think women are weak and not equal to men.

Now weak and not equal are also two different things. Women are considered weak, that is one of the reason why they aren't considered equal to men. But women are not considered equal to men, that is no reason for calling them weak.

We women are stronger than men, be it emotionally, mentally or physically. We can not only make a house, home, but can also manage to handle our complete family on our own. Besides this, we can handle office, cause ''WE DON'T CONSIDER OURSELF TO HANDLE JUST THE CHULHA-CHAUKA, AND FOLLOW THE ORDERS OF OUR PATI-DEV''.

Noone needs to give the proof of a girl's physical capacity. And even the girls should realise it. They face acute pain during the PMS cycles every month and even then they are called weak. I think its a myth. And if you talk of giving birth to a baby, it induces an enormous level of pain which can be compared to breaking of several bones of a human body. According to me, its the time to revive.

Now I don't understand what makes people (specially women themself) think that women are the weaker sex.
I mean Come On. .Alright, all the women reading this right know, answer this. 'DO YOU THINK WE ARE WEAK'?
'DO YOU THINK WE ARE NOT EQUAL TO MEN'?
'DO YOU THINK WE ARE JUST MEANT TO SIT AT OUR HOME, AND SERVE OUR HUSBANDS'?

If your answer is YES . .then i must say You are one of the person in our male dominating society, who is responsible for influencing males to rule us, to control us. And yes, with this I mean that I and several other women who are fighting to get their rights and prove that, Yes we are equal to men, don't like you, the same way, we don't like dominant men.

Why do you expect us to wear fully covered clothes? I mean what makes your filthy mind even have a thought like this.

'ITS OUR LIFE, OUR CLOTHES, OUR BODY'.
It's just a DRESS, not a YES.

If you don't like the way we dress, get your eyes off us. Our dress has nothing to do with 'Our will to get raped'. For heaven's sake, stop blaming us, and if you really want to bring a change, bring that in your mentality. . .

And Men, make this clear,we like compliments, but not from the perverts on roads, not from sick men in pubs who don't respect women.

We don't take Cat calls as compliments, we don't dress to express our so cald will to get raped. And if you are really desperate and nymphomaniac, go hire a sex worker who can fulfill your needs, but remember only if she says, ''YES''

Indian-born Mandi Sellers starts up conference for
                                       women  empowerment in B.C.
May 15, 2012, 01.41PM IST
Indian-born Mandi Sellers starts up conference for women empowerment in B.C.
Indian-born Mandi Sellers has launched a women's focused evening of celebration and empowerment.

Mandi Sellers is one of those entrepreneur types who is always looking to do more. As the successful CEO of Com-Tech Learning Solutions in Vancouver, she's already busy enough holding educational workshops, but when a new idea came to her in a dream, the Indian-born Sellers couldn't ignore it.

"I had a dream where a group of confident, positive, happy women seemed to have the answers to finding personal fulfillment," explains Sellers. "When I woke up, I realized that not only did I want to evolve myself to be like those women in my dream - in everything from my career and family life to health and image - but I wanted to help other women do the same."

The idea to hold a local women's conference came together quickly after that. She put a call out to her friends and associates to seek other women who wanted to get involved.

"I was amazed by the response. I thought that I have obviously hit a real need among women," says the mother of two girls. "There are so many women out there - both Canadian-born and immigrants - who are looking for more out of their lives."

She says it's easy to get bogged down in the daily responsibilities of being a professional, mother and wife, but it's important that women take the time to reinvest in themselves, find inspiration and better themselves. "I call this achieving radiance - inside and out." She dubbed the group of women volunteers who joined together to help her Achieve Radiance Events and Communications, and their inaugural women's conference, called Glow: A Women's Evening of Change and Celebration, has been set for June 1, 2012, at the Executive Inn Hotel, in Coquitlam.

More than simply a seminar, tradeshow or party, Glow is an exciting combination of all three, bringing together women who are seeking positive inspiration to change and improve their lives, while connecting with other women and having fun.

"Not just an evening out, Glow is a movement toward becoming more positive, successful, healthy and happy," says Mandi Sellers. "And what better time to announce the event than in time for International Women's Day today [March 8]?"

This is an event for women from across the Lower Mainland, including the Tri-Cities, Surrey, Langley, Maple Ridge, Burnaby and beyond. Glow will welcome them all with the red carpet treatment, complete with an on-site "paparazzi-style" photographer and local firefighters. The event's tradeshow floor will offer a mix of exhibitor tables and wares for sale, along with a silent auction and seminar series on topics that include personal growth, love and sex, health and body image. Well-known experts Dr. Ali Zentner, Ted Kuntz and Kim Amani will present 30-minute, engaging sessions intended to inspire and empower attendees.

There will also be a martini bar, complimentary hors d'oeuvres and a deejay who will open up the dance floor. The night will end with a complimentary swag bag for each attendee.

Most importantly, Glow is a charitable initiative, with proceeds going to the BC Cancer Agency, focusing on cancers that affect women, and Tri-City Transitions, a charitable organization providing help to women and families who have been impacted by violence and abuse.

Minor boy gets 3 months for rape, victim cries foul

                                -4th June 2012

Three years after she was raped, a 12-year-old Delhi girl complains she has been dealt a rough hand by law. The 15-year-old who raped her was awarded three-month confinement in a reform home by a juvenile justice board. She says it's not enough.

The board deals with cases

involving under18s.
Maximum punishment a juvenile can be awarded — even in a case of murder — is three-year confinement in a special home. “He should have got at least that much,” said the girl, who was nine when she was raped.
She cannot appeal the sentence — juvenile act prevents it. And, the Delhi high court has also shot down her plea for a copy of judgment as the law prohibits it — to protect the privacy and identity of the juvenile offender.
Rejecting the rape victim's appeal against lesser sentence, justice Mukta Gupta said, “Concept of proportionality of sentence is unknown to the juvenile justice act.” The orders passed under the act were only for the rehabilitation and reformation of the juvenile, she said.
Lawyer AJ Bhambani said his client’s fundamental right to pursue legal remedies was denied.
“A juvenile accused cannot be protected by curbing rights of victims,” Anant Asthana, an expert in juvenile law, said.  Instead of restricting access to the records, any mention of names or details that could reveal the identity of the offender or the victim should be avoided, he said.

Now Play “Angry Brides” To Fight Illegal

                              Dowry Demands

-4th June 2012

s per the India’s National Crime Records Bureau in 2010, 8,391 women died in dowry-related deaths, and 44 per cent of all crimes against women in the country were carried out by their husbands and relatives. As the evil of dowry demands and deaths grows, the much popular matrimony website, Shaadi.com has come up with an innovative way of generating awareness about this malaise.
Rolling out the online game, “Angry Brides”, inspired by the extensively popular “Angry Birds” game, the company wishes to engage its audience in an anti-dowry drive. The Facebook based game has already managed a fan base of over 2,70,000, and over 40000 active users.
The players attack prospective greedy grooms with weapons such as stilettos and broomsticks, while the grooms – a doctor, an engineer and a pilot – dodge the attacks while demanding dowries, starting from Rs. 15 Lakh. As the players manage to hit the groom, they win money towards a virtual anti-dowry fund.
In a statement, Shaddi.com said, “Shaadi.com has always believed that marriage is an institution of love, where there is a place for togetherness, mutual understanding, family values and emotional support but not for dowry!”.
Paying and accepting a dowry in India has been illegal since 1961, but the centuries-old tradition of the bride’s parents presenting gifts of cash, clothes, jewellery, even appliances to the groom’s family remains strong.
Demands for dowry often persist well past the wedding ceremonies, and in the worst cases, brides are tortured and even murdered if they or their parents do not comply.
Will this game be able to change the mindsets of people who engage in dowry demands and torture for the same?

WHY DO YOU THINK IT IS DIFFICULT TO LIVE A
                                  LIFE  AS  A WOMEN?

This is for all those girls who feel IT IS DIFFICULT TO LIVE A LIFE AS A WOMAN. . AND THE GUYS WHO WANT TO MAKE THIS WORLD, A BETTER PLACE FOR WOMEN.

(For people living in another world, let me mention, when I say women, I mean little girls, young girls and women).

Let us find the reason for why women feel it is difficult to live their life?

My Question for all the girls/ women—

You don't like your body?
I don’t think so! IT’S SO CURVACEOUS!

So, you don't like every men looking at your body with that desperate look to eat you, use your body against your will, and then dump it?

That is justified!

Do you consider it unjust that you have to face all the pain, PMS cycle every month, bear the pain and give birth to another life?

Well, I Guess, You would be proud of yourself!

You don't like the fact that inspite of being strong enough to manage with the PMS cycle every month, bear the pain and give birth to a child you are considered weak, which is clear from how you are treated in the society?

Justified again. .!

Well, the reason that you don't like every men looking at your body with that desperate look to eat you, use your body against your will, and then dump it is justified, if you step in the shoe of a women.

If u don't agree, just take a minute and review you memory when you read RAPE Cases in the newspaper daily, hear new cases of sexual harassment, and also see men looking at you with that weird look, whistling at you, passing lewd comments, and all other Cat calls. .

DUDE, HOW CAN YOU TAKE IT CASUALLY?

Now, another reason that is women don't like being considered weaker sex, when they don't think they are. .I don’t like to mention it again and again, that too when it should be crystal clear, ‘’WHAT WOMEN ARE CAPABLE OF DOING’’?

So how would they manage being categorized in the sexes as ‘’THE WEAKER SEX’’?

The reason for their thought processes to turn to the direction, that, ''It is difficult to live life as a woman'' is a reality but not appreciated, not by me atleast.

If you have a problem, you must come up with a solution.

MOULD IT! CHANGE IT!  BUT FACE IT!

The problem is going on since ages, the authorities are doing what they wish (which is not the best that they can), but anyways, what are you doing to keep yourself safe, except blaming men??

Not all men are the same, Agreed! But it is unexceptional to see such mindset among women, seeing the current situation.

Women, who face it, hate it! Now, 90% of women face it. But how many of them are willing to change it?

Quite less! Arghh!

It’s not that they can't change it. They can do anything, if giving birth to another innocent life is possible for them.

The truth lies in the fact that till the women would think they are the weaker sex, they will be supressed for sure. They must revive, unite and throw this old-fashioned approach of life out of their brains if they want to get the respect and honor they deserve….
