A 27-year-old Spanish national was allegedly
raped and robbed at knifepoint by an unknown intruder who barged into her
residence on Monday. The police said a preliminary probe revealed the accused
had come to commit theft at the apartment and, finding her alone, also raped
her.
At around 3.15am, the accused
entered the victim’s third-floor apartment through an open window. Her flat
mate, also a woman foreign national, was away in Kerala. After committing the
offence, the man fled with a few euros, Rs. 1,000 in cash and a camera, all of
whose worth totalled Rs. 30,000-35,000.
The woman, a musician, was sent for medical tests following her complaint with the police and additional commissioner (west) Vishwas Nangre-Patil confirmed the rape.
The police said she came to Mumbai four months ago. Her visa had been procured from Germany and had been sponsored by the Indian government.
